Innovative and Space Saving Ideas to Stylize Your Kitchen

If you are searching for innovative kitchen decorating ideas, practicality may be your best bet. Unless you order out every meal, the majority of family time is usually spent in the kitchen cooking, consoling, eating, munching... Have you ever noticed when you have a party your kitchen becomes the hot spot? Here are some innovative ideas for a working kitchen.

Open up your space. If you have money, take down the wall between your dining room and kitchen and install an island. You will have more space to work and the open atmosphere will make your house feel larger. If you do want a division, remove half of the wall and build a bar. You will have more counter space, it will still have an airy feel, and your kitchen will feel more modern. To add more storage space, build in drawers or a wine rack to the base of your island.

If you are sticking to minor adjustments, the first thing you can do to open up your space is clear your countertops. If you are anything like me, my countertop has become the home to my toaster, microwave, bread maker, coffee maker, and countless other appliances.

Use the top shelf in your pantry to store appliances you occasionally use like a waffle iron or crock-pot, and put every day appliances inside your cabinet. Limit your countertops to one or two must haves like your coffee maker or microwave. Keep these appliances clean, especially metal, which tends to pick up fingers prints and grease from cooking. A clean appliance makes the whole room appear cleaner.

If you have limited workspace, consider buying a mobile work cart. There are a multitude of styles. Commonly, it's sides fold down so it can fit neatly against a wall and it was a series of drawers where you can store cooking utensils. Try to find one with cupboards build in to save more space. When in use, you can pull it to the center of the floor and when you are done, tuck it neatly into a corner, against the wall, or even in a closet.

If you have limited storage space, consider getting a hanging pot and pan rack. You can hang your pots and pans directly over the stove for easy use. These racks have become more and more popular over the years.

Install a window for fresh air and light. A simple window will make your room feel more airy. If you have a door, consider replacing it with a glass patio door. Your room will feel twice the size.

Replace wood cabinet doors with glass fronts. By stocking your cabinets with bright china, your room will take on a whole new feel. Not only will it feel larger, but also your dishes will actually add an element of design. If you do opt for wood, choosing maple cabinets will give your room a golden glow, and it will feel bigger. If you prefer a rustic look, opt for darker woods and stains. If you are feeling creative use alternating stains or consider installing window shutters.

Instill tile on your counters. Traditionally people opt for marble or laminate countertops but to add some style, choose a tile you love. You can line the edges with a slightly different color. Not only does this add a homey feel to the kitchen, but also it's cleaned easily. To give your kitchen a Tuscan look, mount terracotta or stones into your backsplash.

To make your kitchen feel updated, consider painting. Painting is a quick and cheap alternative that gives a room a whole new feel. Use two different colors to tie together tablecloths and accents. You can also modernize your kitchen by replacing old appliances. Pea green refrigerators definitely date your home.

Stylize your cookbooks. Instead of jamming your cookbooks in a draw or stacking them on a counter, install a shelf and neatly organize your cookbooks. It will make your home feel cozy and is practical.

Use your trivets and hot pads as decoration. Instead of hanging pricey artwork over the sink or stone, use your cast iron trivets or decorative hot pads to furnish the kitchen.

Last but not least, our scent is one of our strongest senses. To make a kitchen feel truly homey, burn a candle like vanilla or apple pie.
