Kitchen Decorating Ideas by Mr.Andrew

How to find ideas for decorating a kitchen. Staying within the budget. Planning the projects and saving money on labor.

When you own an old house, there is always something to do to it, and usually very little money to do it with. My old house needed a great deal of work, such as repairs, new plumbing and some redecorating. But with a budget, I had to decide where to start and picked the most needy project of all, the kitchen. I new it needed a change, but I didn't know where to begin to redecorate it, so I had to get some ideas, fast.

My first stop was the library. I found a number of books on interior design, and they also had a lot of magazines that gave me wonderful ideas for redecorating my kitchen. One of the best things they did was to show the before and after pictures so I could see that these ideas actually worked. These books and magazines had complete instructions so that even a novice like me could complete the jobs they illustrated. With the detailed instructions, it looked easy to do.

There were a lot of books and magazines, so I had a hard time finding which ideas I wanted to use. I had a couple of limitations that led me to eliminate one or two of the ideas. My main limitation was my budget, of course. I could not afford to spend too much money on the kitchen alone since I was planning on renovating my entire house over the course of time, so I had to budget room by room. And since I was planning on doing as much of the work as possible by myself, I had to make sure that the jobs I would take on were within my scope of expertise. One of the most expensive costs of renovating is labor, so I was trying to avoid hiring any contractors. I had a last consideration that perhaps many people do not think about: I wanted my kitchen to be extremely efficient as well as pretty to look at.

It is important to identify the most important features that you want in a room before you start to renovate. If you have a clear vision, it makes it easier to pick out plans and projects that work for you. I bought the materials and started working, evenings and weekends, and was finished in less than one month. Keeping my eye on the magazine ideas, I was able to recreate them in my own kitchen and create an entirely new room.

Believe me, if I could do it, so can you. If you too have an old kitchen that needs updating with new ideas, check out all of the decorating magazines and books (don't forget the Internet!) and you will come up with some great ideas for a new look.

Choosing Decorating Ideas For Your Kitchen

Designing a kitchen can be exciting and there are so many decorating ideas that you could try. Often the kitchen is a room in which most people spend a lot of their time. Whether it is to entertain friends and family or simply to cook the family meals, the kitchen really is the centerpiece in most homes. So, if you are thinking of decorating it, it would be a good idea to spend time researching and finding the right ideas to suit your home as well as your personality.

Finding the Right Kitchen Decorating Ideas to Suit You

There are many ways in which you can make your kitchen look homely and sophisticated or modern and relaxed. From choosing different tiles to rearranging the whole design, you should definitely be able to come up with something that suits your family needs as long as you do the right amount of research.

You can find various different designs in magazines as well as on the internet. The internet has a huge range of ideas to be found, though it might take you a long time to come up with one which you like, so ensure that you have quite a few hours to spare when you set off on your search!

Going to your local library might also be a good idea as an aid in your search. There you will find plenty of interior design books which will also offer ideas as to what you could go for. Usually even little steps can be taken to drastically improve the look of the kitchen it doesnt always have to be the big changes that make a difference! For example, if you have a table, a simple centerpiece on the table could add that extra touch that it was missing. A tablecloth could also be something different to try. Basically you need to use as much imagination as you can in order to let your personality shine through.

If you are looking to redecorate the whole kitchen then you will need paint or wallpaper as well as paintbrushes, tiles and accessories. You may want to think about moving the sink or boiler within your home but generally that can cost a lot of money and it is also a lot of hassle! So, avoid changing the whole layout around if possible. Of course you could always replace old looking cupboards and worktops with more modern designs if you want to, and you can replace an old looking cooker and appliances with newer ones and that should help to change the look of the kitchen.

Overall it is completely up to you as to how you want to design the kitchen. You need to ensure that you are happy with the designs and you also need to make sure that you have spent enough time researching and looking for new designs. Redecorating should never be a rushed job otherwise it may turn out all wrong!

Easy Decorating Ideas For the Kitchen

The kitchen is a room that is more personal than any other room in your home. This is because your kitchen decorating theme deeply reflects your personal decorating tastes and style. When you decide to decorate your kitchen, it's important to be sure you're decorating for yourself... not others. Take your family into consideration of course, but if you're the one who uses the kitchen most, it's safe to consider it as your room. Now, the easiest way to add a little decorating flavor to your kitchen is by adding a fresh new coat of paint. If you don't feel like taking on a painting project though, don't worry. There are plenty of other ideas for decorating the kitchen that don't involve painting.

First, try putting up new curtains. New curtains help create a fresh new look in your kitchen, and sometimes just this one change will make your kitchen look completely different. This is a simple and cost effective method for decorating. Curtains can bring out the personality of your kitchen with little effort too. If you have a country style kitchen for instance, a few country cooking themed curtains will help pull the decorating them together.

Next, try new kitchen accessories. Every kitchen could do well with new fresh accessories. After a while your old accessories tend to get tiresome, and... well... old. New accessories like paper towel racks, bread boxes, salt and pepper shakers, or even old jars can make your kitchen look like it's been completely redecorated. And along with these new accessories, if your budget permits, purchase a new kitchen gadget that will go along with your new theme. Instead of a plain white coffeemaker for instance, go for a new red coffee maker to accent the red apples in the country themed curtains. Be creative and add a personal touch.

Alternatively, try making your own kitchen accessories. If you are the crafty, artsy type then you could make your own kitchen decorating accessories. Most craft stores have several unfinished kitchen decor items that you can purchase and decorate on your own. For instance, you could buy an unfinished bread box and custom design it to fit your favorite decorating theme. When finished, that bread box will be an evident testimonial of your creative decorating abilities. Doing this with your entire kitchen decor collection will further add that personal touch that every kitchen deserves.

Your kitchen is the primary source where you feed and nurture your family. By adding your distinct personality to your kitchen's personality, you'll create life-long memories for you and your family. So start working on some of these great kitchen decorating ideas today, and you're bound to come up with something completely unique and special that you'll absolutely love.

Kitchen Decorating Ideas For A Bright New Look

If you are planning on decorating you kitchen then the first thing you need to do is to decide how much you want to spend on the project. Do you just want to make it look cleaner and brighter or are you considering a complete remodeling with new cabinets and appliances. Each route will involve different budgets and different ways of going about the job.

For example, if you are considering remodeling then you might need to engage a professional to deal with any plumbing and electric. In addition to this, you might not feel confident taking out the existing cabinets and installing the new ones. Unless you have some experience of this kind of thing, or have a friend or relative in the trade then it might be best to talk to a professional.

Let us suppose that you have decided that your budget wont run to a complete remodeling and you just want to make your kitchen clean and bright. If your cabinets are past their best, you could, for example, add new doors and drawer fronts. These are available from many do-it-yourself outlets and the job is far easier to do than a complete refitting. On the other hand you may decide that the cabinet doors are ok but could do with a coat of paint. Some cabinets may not take a coat of paint if they have a laminate front. Flooring can add a world of difference to your kitchen, choose from the popular laminates or try hard-wearing ceramic tiles to give your kitchen an up to date look.

Tiling can make or break the look of your kitchen. If your old tiles are looking cracked and dingy then replace them. If you have all white tiles then why not try some transfers to brighten them up. When you are using paint on your kitchen walls it is a good idea to keep it light. Cream or pale lemon are good choices for a kitchen. You can always brighten it up with multi-colored blinds or curtains, then you can pick one of the colors and use that for your kitchen accessories. Bright, wipe clean blinds look great in the kitchen and they are less likely to harbor dust and germs than are curtains. If your kitchen is small, the lighter your d?cor the better. Bright or dark colors can have the effect of making a room look smaller than it is.

Whatever you decide to do in your kitchen dont get too quirky if you think that there may come a time when you want to sell it. Buyers much prefer neutral d?cor because it acts as a background against which they can visualize their possessions.

Home Decorating Idea - Tips on Decorating a Small Kitchen

Even though small kitchens are a challenge to decorate, storage and display areas are of prime importance. Here are a few home decorating ideas for decorating a small kitchen to make it both beautiful and efficient.

Visually increase a small kitchen’s size with glass cabinet doors. Paint the insides of the cabinets the same color as the walls for a fashionable, well-designed update. Solid-door cabinets work well below the counter and to the ceiling above the eye-level glass-door cabinets.

Another home decorating idea and variation on kitchen storage is to use open shelves over the sink, the cabinets and as much of the wall space as desired. This is especially useful when you enjoy collectibles but are limited on space to display them.

Repetition of shapes plus a variety of textures such as found in baskets is a home decorating idea that adds appeal to any kitchen regardless of size.

Even a small kitchen can accommodate an island provided the area is at least 12 to 15 feet wide. This will provide additional storage as well as work space and will be convenient from anywhere in the kitchen. A chopping block or moveable carts with open shelving are examples of items that provide extra work areas and storage.

Think creatively of every space in a small kitchen such as adding a pot rack, pegs, hooks, or decorative wall-mounted baskets for additional storage. Also, don’t add a lot of non-kitchen décor to the room. If you choose good quality, stylish cookware, utensils and dishes, they will make perfect kitchen decorative items.

Canister sets make great home decorating ideas and are an example of trendy but practical accessories for your kitchen since they can easily become the focus of your kitchen decorating style.
Install new drawer pulls and cabinet door handles for another inexpensive way to update a kitchen.

Since the kitchen is one of the most used rooms in the house, it is important that the design allows for ease and efficiency. By putting the previously mentioned guidelines to work, you will create a beautiful and practical kitchen regardless of size.
